Adolescents and youth constitute a significant segment of Zambia’s young population. However, this demographic is often faced with unique health challenges and barriers to accessing quality healthcare. To effectively address their needs, peer education remains one of the vital mechanisms within adolescent health programs. For example, training of Peer educators to deliver health information and promote healthy behaviours is a credible path to enhance trust and improve service uptake. Proper training of peer educators is crucial to ensure they are equipped with the knowledge, skills, and right attitudes necessary to deliver effective, youth-friendly health services.

With financial support from AMPLIFYCHANGE, ZAGO has been training peer educators in some sites the project is being implemented. The training aims at enhancing knowledge about adolescent health issues, including sexual and reproductive health, teenage pregnancy, early marriage, mental health, alcohol and substance abuse, unsafe abortion, STIs, nutrition, among other challenges facing adolescents and young people. Further, the training is designed to unlock access to adolescent and youth health friendly services through community awareness programs.
