Standards and Guidelines for Comprehensive Abortion Care in Zambia

One of the major causes of maternal morbidity and mortality in Zambia is unsafe abortion. In
response, the Ministry of Health introduced this lifesaving package of care; the Standards and
Guidelines for Comprehensive Abortion Care (CAC). These standards and guidelines when
implemented adequately and to scale will contribute significantly to the reduction of maternal
deaths from unsafe abortions, a preventable cause of maternal morbidity and mortality.
